Tolman was praised for her performance as the part of Minnesota police officer Molly Solverson. Vanity Fair stated that Tolman had "calmly sure of taking over the whole show". Tolman received an Critics' Choice Television Award for her performance in the category Best Supporting Actress, Films/Miniseries. Also, her nominations in the category of Best Actress were received at the Emmy Awards as well as the Golden Globes. Tolman got an episode of guest-starring as romance writer Abby Berman on The Mindy Show the following year.
